Richard Shakespeare Disability & Visual Impairment Training

Disability and Visual Impairment Awareness Training

Richard Shakespeare has teamed up with SightED who are a leading authority on visual impairments and the key issues that this can raise.

We have created our “Committed to Equality” accreditation which is only given to businesses that have demonstrated a clear commitment to deliver the best service and embrace equality.

In order to ensure that your staff comply with Equality Legislation and are able to develop the skills and the confidence to support people with disabilities, we can offer a series of training sessions.  These will be conducted alongside SightED to ensure your staff develop an awareness of how to support ALL disabled individuals.

1 Day Course

a) SightED Visual Awareness Training (3 Hours), covering:

  • Effective communication techniques
  • Recognising people with sight loss, including the equipment they use
  • Learning about what visual impairment means – what are the types of sight loss?
  • Challenging perceptions of sight loss
  • Learning how to safely guide visually impaired people.

b) Disability Awareness Training (3 Hours), covering:

  • Why is disability awareness important?
  • Enhancing the customer experience
  • What is it like to live with a disability?
  • Perceptions and how these can be wrong
  • How to gain a competitive advantage by being fully inclusive.

We can provide a location for the training courses to be run or we can come to your venue.  Courses are bespoke built following an initial consultation with each client.

Our aim is to provide you with the course that is best going to suit the needs of your organisation.

Once you have completed the course you will become one of our approved providers and we will give you our “Committed to Equality accreditation, this will give you:

  • The ability to use our “Committed to Eqaulity” logo on your business cards, vehicles, websites and any publicity material.
  • A certificate to show that your business is an Approved Provider.
  • A listing on both our website and the SightED website.
  • A listing within the Bulletin, with a distribution of 22,000 readers per year.
  • PR Support.

We recognise the difficulties in arranging for your staff to attend a full day course and so we have devised a shorter option to cater for your needs.
